    Michael is A Senior Associate and Heads the Crime and Misconduct Division at Creevey Russell.

    Michael brings a wealth of specialist knowledge from his time as a Principal of the leading criminal practice in the Northern Territory and as Special Counsel and Head of Department to other Australian Criminal Divisions.

    Michael has a unique background with extensive experience in all levels of courtroom advocacy. He has practiced as both a Barrister and Solicitor in the Magistrates Courts, District and Supreme Courts of Appeal in many Australian Jurisdictions. He has been involved in some of the most high-profile cases in South East Asia over the last decade, including the defence of an Australian citizen prosecuted in East Timor on charges of murder and attempted Presidential assassination.

    Michael is also highly experience in dealing with coercive investigations by the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC) and Queensland’s Crime and Corruption Commission (QCC). He has appeared in coronial enquiries, Mental Health Review Tribunal and Mental Health Court matters, as well as before parliamentary investigatory bodies where he has represented politicians in the highest levels of State Government.

    Michael also frequently represents clients involved in prosecutions by State Government bodies such as Department of Environment and Science (DES), The Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Energy (DNRME) and in Environmental and Local Government or Council Prosecutions. He also has extensive experience in prosecutions brought by professional regulatory bodies such as the Australian Health Practitioner’s Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and the Office of the Health Ombudsman (OHO) where he acts for both companies and individuals who have been charged or are under investigation.

    In 2015 Michael was recognised but the Australian Institute of Management as one of the “AIM 30” Top 30 leaders and mangers under 30 in Australia. He is a former Vice-President of the NorthernTerriroty Young Lawyers Associate and General Committee member of the Criminal Lawyers Association of the Northern Territory,

    CAREER HISTORY

    Josh has nearly 10 years’ experience in dispute resolution, seven of those as a solicitor.  Following his admission, Josh played a key role in the running of the Commercial and Litigation teams at a leading suburban firm.  That ability to work both transactional and dispute matters is key in being able to see not just the law, but the practical and commercial aspects of a matter, and how it might be resolved.

    Josh then moved to a prominent CBD property law practice in their litigation team, having responsibility for Planning and Environment matters, commercial and contract disputes and other issues that arose in the client’s day to day lives.

    Josh has appeared for clients in the High Court of Australia, the Federal Court of Australia, the Federal Circuit Court of Australia, the Queensland Court of Appeal, the Supreme Court of Queensland, the District Court of Queensland, the Planning and Environment Court of Queensland, the Magistrates Court of Queensland and the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
